Jack Phone? Magic Call? What is it?

It’s “Magic Jack” idiot…this is what I’m thinking to myself after I remember finally what it is.

Why do I keep on trying to remember it? It’s because it’s such a steal. I’ve heard of the cheap phone call solution for a while now. It’s $19.95 a year or at least that’s what I’ve seen advertised. I just visited the cheap phone call website and they’re even offering it for free – rather a free trial right now. The date said by today (Feb 20, 2011). I think it might be programmed where it takes the date from your computer and says today is the last day; kind of savvy, don’t you think?

Anyway, regardless if it’s free or if it’s $19.95 for:

  • free directory assistance
  • free phone number
  • free call waiting
  • free voicemail
  • and free caller id

for a full year, I would say that’s a steal!  I’ve been doing everything I can to reduce my telecommunication expenses here in the  past few years because Read the rest of this entry »

Free Google Phone for one more year

So, it looks like Google’s extending their offering of their phone service for another year. I thought they were done with it this past December when I believe there was a message that said “one more month of free calling to anywhere in the U.S.” or something like that using Google phone. Who knows the exact reasoning and I don’t have enough time to think about it, but hey, why not take advantage of it? I just tried it out last night calling from Seattle to my friend in Hawaii and we talked for literally 3 hours for free! I didn’t do it because I needed minutes, but I just didn’t want to a) worry about more possibility of brain cancer sticking my phone next to my head and b) could use the headset very comfortably and talk to him and his wife with ease. It was great!

If you haven’t used it before, basically log into your gmail account. Create a gmail account if you haven’t done that already. (There should be some cool affiliate gmail account program out there, but again, I don’t have time to take advantage of it right now. Ha, ha…) After logging in, look to your left hand side where there’s usually lots of features like your email folders and your contacts and tasks (all of this is customizable, btw. check out google’s blog on gmail.)

Ooma Telo offers free residential telephone service

ooma voip

Just saw this beautiful residential phone alternative called Ooma Telo at at Costco.  They’re selling it for $169.99 from what I remember, but that’s not bad if residential phone calls are truly free.  Give it a try and comment here!

Basic Free Phone Calling: Advice Tip #1 – Do some shopping around

This shouldn’t be that hard. Whereever you are, you should do a few things. 1) Try the phone cards that you can get at local convenience store. Maybe ask some friends if they’ve used them. Use social networking websites like facebook to see if there’s a group which discusses the topic. 2) If you haven’t used some of the free VOIP tools out there, let me know and I’ll give you some. There are a number of software tools that let you call free from computer to pc. Some of them let you call PC to Phone and vice versa. You will have to do some shopping around for those services to see which ones may be scams and which ones may be relatively good.

Set up a local phone number from abroad? Let your friends call you abroad for cheap!

For $20 a year, this Magic Jack product supposedly just plugs into your laptop or computer’s USB port and you can call or receive calls from a designated number you choose. If you want a Seattle area phone number, you get a number like 206.111.2132. Check it out!

Free phone service company Stanaphone Shuts down – no more free outgoing phone calls

A service which About.com tells us you can “now get free outgoing calls to real phone numbers and free incoming calls to a real phone number. You may be thinking ‘who is crazy enough to be offering that kind of service free in both directions’ and that would be a wise question. The truth is that no one company is doing that — You need to be a little creative and combine services from two companies to get free calling in both directions. Read the rest of this entry »

WordPress appears to be on the wave of websites jumping on the iPhone bandwagon

And the bandwagon may not be a too bad place to be as the fallacy usually points out saying there is NO reason except the trend being popular.  Well, this popular trend may be lots of new or heavy traffic for WordPress.

WordPress CEO Matt Mullenweg or like what he likes to call himself CBBQTT (which stands for “Chief BBQ Taste Tester” for the company that produces WordPress – Automattic.com) wrote recently: Read the rest of this entry »

Wireless carrier offers cheaper land line phone services

T-Mobile Offers New Home Phone Service

How is this for a twist: Wireless carrier T-Mobile wants to sell consumers phone service in their homes.

The company announced Wednesday that it would introduce a Internet-based phone service called T-Mobile@Home later this month which it hopes will compete with landline and voice-over-Internet offerings from the likes of AT&T, Verizon and Vonage. The service will cost $10 a month, but customers must also have a T-Mobile cellphone plan (which typically start at $29.99 a month) and broadband Internet service (which typically costs $20 to $50 a month, depending on who the provider is).
