Free phone service company Stanaphone Shuts down – no more free outgoing phone calls
Posted in: Free phones, Phone services
A service which About.com tells us you can “now get free outgoing calls to real phone numbers and free incoming calls to a real phone number. You may be thinking ‘who is crazy enough to be offering that kind of service free in both directions’ and that would be a wise question. The truth is that no one company is doing that — You need to be a little creative and combine services from two companies to get free calling in both directions.
Stanaphone has been offering a free phone number that allows you to receive free calls and free voice mail for quite some time. All you need to do is register and select the area code and they will assign you a free phone number. You can receive calls using their Windows based software or you can stay offline and just use them as free voice mail that gets forwarded to your email account.”
However as of December 1, 2008, the service is now finished, terminated, stopped, most likely bankrupt. On the Stanaphone website, the message reads: “After many years of providing valuable Internet telephony services to customers worldwide, we have decided to discontinue the Stanaphone service. We will be shutting down the Stanaphone service on December 1, 2008.
As of this notice, we are no longer accepting new Stanaphone credit purchases. If you have a positive credit balance in your account, you may continue using it to make and receive calls as usual between now and December 1. If you have a positive credit balance remaining after the service has been terminated on December 1, you can contact customer service at that time to request a refund to your credit card.”
